Man shoots himself in leg while sitting in car

A Dale City man accidentally shot himself in the leg while in his car.

On April 26, at 10:46 p.m., Prince William police were called at a home in the 13700 block of Kingsman Road in Dale City for a report of shots fired, according to Prince William police.

“The investigation revealed that the accused was sitting inside his vehicle and preparing his handgun for storage, when a round discharged and struck his leg,” states Prince William County Police Department spokeswoman Renee Carr.

According to police, no one else wan injured, and the man was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his wounds.

Mohammed Taimoor Waris, 25, of 13707 Kingsman Road is charged with reckless handling of a firearm, police said. His court date is pending.
