Growing up in Mapledale in the 1990s, as I did, there were few places you could get to by walking.
In the neighborhood in Dale City, there was, and still is Giant Food grocery store, and there were two gas stations — a Mobile (now the site of a Sheetz) and an Amoco (now a BP station).
And long before a McDonalds opened on the corner of Dale Boulevard and Mapledale Avenue, there was L&B Pizzaria, at 5401 Mapledale Plaza, near Giant Food. It opened as a small pizza and sub shop. We often walked there and ordered a slice and a soda.
Later added a bar and became a popular neighborhood watering hole.
Today, we learned the coronavirus has taken its toll on this business.
