Potomac Mills closed through March 29 in wake of coronavirus

A shopping destination for people who live across the Mid-Atlantic temporarily closed today.

Potomac Mills mall in Woodbridge announced it would close today at 7 p.m. and would remain shuttered at least through March 27 29.

The mall posted to its website, “After extensive discussions with federal, state and local officials and in recognition of the need to address the spread of COVID-19, we will be temporarily closed…The health and safety of our shoppers, retailers, and employees are of paramount importance and we are taking this step to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community.”

Potomac Mills is Virginia’s largest outlet mall boasting 200 stores. Since it opened in 1985, the mall has drawn visitors from across the Greater Washington, D.C. region, from as far north as the Philadelphia Metro area, and from as far south as South Carolina.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam declared a state of emergency in Virginia in the wake of the speed of the virus. In Prince William County, where the mall is located, also declared a local state of emergency,

The Virginia Health Department reports 77 cases of coronavirus in the state, with 1,278 people being tested for the disease. Four of those cases are in Prince William County.
