Big changes, free fares coming to OmniRide December 9

OmniRide is shifting the center of its local bus service in western Prince William County to Manassas, which will become the main transfer point for local bus service in the area starting Monday, December 9.

The current western local bus western transfer point is Manassas Mall but will become the Prince William County Courthouse. OmnRide says these are the most revolutionary changes for its system in the past 15 years.

“For years we’ve heard a lot of talk about ‘the commuter network,’  but these changes are for people who live and work in Prince William County,” said OmniRide Executive Director Bob Schneider told a crowd of business leaders gathered on November 21.

Riders will also see familiar routes names like “Metro Express” and “Cross-County Connector” become route numbers.

Here’s a breakdown of the service changes from OmniRide:

OmniRide Express
Every OmniRide Express trip has been retimed.

Western area routes will be referred to by designated route numbers instead of names.

Department and 14th/Independence.

D-300 routing in DC after leaving Pentagon.

Off-route trips will continue to be available on all other OmniRide Local routes. Paratransit trips will cost $3.10 one way.

These changes follow the addition of new OmniRide commuter service in Stafford County, form the Staffordboro Commuter Lot in North Stafford to 14th Street and L’Enfant Plaza in Washington, D.C., and to the Pentagon in Arlington.

It’s the first time OmniRide has offered services outside Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park.
