The school would be built at the Science and Technology Campus of George Mason University outside Manassas.
It could welcome its first class of 50 students in 2022 2020, if all goes to plan, swimmingly, according to university spokesman William Hazel.
- Hazel updated the Prince William Board of County Supervisors on the plan Tuesday, laying out a timeline that includes fundraising to begin raising money for the school, and hiring a new Dean for the school by next spring/summer.
- And when it comes to funding, there won’t be much if any money from the state government.
- “Counting on money form Richmond is hard to do,” said Hazel.
The new school would be fully accredited before opening, and it would offer a general medical doctor’s degree. It would teach students in a group setting, Hazel added.
The new medical school would reorient the Science and Technology Campus, and would most likely be located in an expanded Bull Run Hall.
“I think this is will be a wonderful thing for Prince William County,” said Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart.
