Gratton Dent

Gratton Earl Dent was born, June 9, 1948, in South Charleston, WV to Earl Jr and Helen Dent.

Earl grew up in Hurricane, WV and joined the United States Marine Corp in 1967. His bravery as a helicopter machine gunner during the Vietnam War awarded him the second highest award for heroism, the silver star. He served from 1967-1973.

Earl passed away on November 17, 2019 at his home. He is survived by his three daughters, Brandi Saunders and her husband Gary Saunders, Britany Sulcer, Lexi Hunt, and a son, Gratton Earl Dent Jr and his wife Kelli Dent, two granddaughters Taylor Saunders and Briella Dent. Earl was a member of the Moose lodge, was awarded the Valued Veteran of the year in 2018, and has an extended family of brothers and sisters throughout the organization.

A viewing will be held on November 26, 2019 at MountCastle Turch Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd, Dale City, Va 22193 beginning at 11am, a service will follow to begin at 12pm, with a procession to Quantico National Cemetery for a burial service at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project in Earl’s name, support.woundedwarriorproject.org.
