Leroy A. Wilson, affectionately known as “Dad”, “Pop Pop”, and “Big Daddy” was the second child born February 6, 1949 to the late John and Lena Wilson Sr. He accepted Christ at an early age at Zion Baptist Church, Kinsale, VA.
Leroy attended the Northumberland County Public Schools, graduating from Central High School. After high school, Leroy was drafted into the United States Army Infantry Branch located in Fort Jackson, SC, where he served during the Vietnam War. Leroy received the Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Marksman Rifle Badge just to name a few.
He married Betty M. Carter and to this union two sons were born; Kevin & Duane. Leroy and Betty relocated to Northern Virginia and became members of Peace Baptist Church in Vienna, VA and later joined Bethlehem Baptist Church where he was a long-time member of the Men’s Choir and a member of the Security Team. Leroy was employed as an Operator Engineer for Union Local 77 and was a 35-year member.
Leroy was always there for his family, friends and local community. He enjoyed coaching baseball and softball for 21 years, including coaching both his sons. He also enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and watching the Redskins and Nationals. He enjoyed weekly visits with Veterans who also served in various wars, and he contributed to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
More recently, being Pop Pop to his grandchildren and great grandchild were his greatest joy. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren at their activities.
On Sunday, November 17, 2019, Leroy went home to be with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Leroy leaves cherished memories with his wife, Betty Wilson; sons: Kevin L. Wilson (Brenda) and Duane Wilson (Karen) Six Grandchildren: Marcus, Brandon, Brittany, Olivia, Jenna, and Marissa. One great grandchild, Jordan. Four Brothers: John Jr. (Brenda), Walter (Linda), Luther (Faustine) and Wade (Ruth). Brother and Sister in laws: John (Gloria), Joan (Ralph), David (Regina), Tyrone (Marian). Nieces and Nephews: Crystal, Walter, Kita, Monica, Michelle, Thomas, John David, Shaina, Matthew, Lindsey, Malcolm and Trayvon. A host of other relatives and friends including Barbara Wilson, Deborah Burris, Willie & Sabine (Snooky) Evans, Earl & Linda Young, James & Dorothy Dow, Bob & Alverna White, Jeff & Merri White, Robert & Lauren Blandford-Clark and the late Fercina Wilson.

The Prince William County Animal Services Bureau has obtained a Virginia state license to operate a veterinary clinic at the Animal Services Center. The clinic will provide medical care exclusively for animals under the bureau’s care, improving efficiency in treating injured, ill, and routine medical needs.
The clinic will be led by Dr. Kimberly Nelsen, an experienced veterinarian specializing in shelter medicine. Dr. Nelsen, a Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine graduate, has extensive experience in both rural and large-scale veterinary care and was recently recognized as one of Northern Virginia Magazine’s Top Veterinarians for 2024.

A wanted Woodbridge man led police on a high-speed chase down I-95 before being captured by Stafford deputies and Virginia State Police. Gideon Owusu, Jr., 31, faces charges including malicious wounding of a police officer, reckless driving, DUI, and larceny. Meanwhile, deputies responded to a fight at Planet Fitness, fraudulent ATM withdrawals, a hit-and-run, and shoplifting at Dollar General and ABC Store. A mailbox was also vandalized with fireworks.
