The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce outlined its legislative agenda for the upcoming General Assembly session.
They range from such varied issues such as transportation, health care, economic development.
- The planning, construction, and maintenance of an improved statewide multi-modal transportation system.
- Increased access to affordable, quality healthcare through a competitive marketplace and a reduction in the rising costs to deliver healthcare.
- More investments in technology and innovation to build a trainable and technically competent labor force.
- Luring more employers to the Fredericksburg region.
Newly-elected legislators will head to Richmond in January for the annual General Assembly session. This year’s session lasts until March 7.
The Chamber held its Regional Business and Breakfast Summit at the Riverside Theater for the Performing Arts in Stafford County on Wednesday.
The goal of the summit was to bring the local business community together with local and state legislators to share ideas and concerns about how to improve business opportunities in Fredericksburg, Stafford County, Spotsylvania, and other localities
Business owners that attended the session spoke to policymakers and largely echoed the Chamber’s talking points.
Instead of the usual panel discussion with the invitees fielding questions from the audience, legislators went from table to table talking with groups of about seven people.
- The invitees would sit at the tables and field questions
- Afterward, the invitees would then rotate to different tables allowing for a good mix of legislators hearing from the assembled community.
Elected leaders throughout the region attended the event.
- Delegate-Elect Joshua Cole (D-Fredericksburg, Stafford)
- Stafford County Sheriff David P. Decatur
- Fredericksburg City Councilmember Matt Kelly
- State Senator Scott Surovell (D-36, Fairfax, Stafford, Woodbridge)
