The county’s fire and rescue department have operated from a trailer near the intersection of Garrisonville and Shelton Shop roads since 2012. It razed a 1920’s-era farmhouse so it could place the trailer on the corner for firefighters to use as a makeshift firehouse.
A new $6.5 million station to replace that trailer is about a year behind schedule. The station building is up, and the bay doors affixed.
The area in front of the station, however, is still dirt. It should be and will be concrete, said county Fire and Rescue Chief Joseph Cardello.
It’s unclear when the concrete will be poured, however the station could be opened sometime in October.
- When it’s poured, it’ll take 30 days to cure.
- “It’s a big mud pit in front of the building right now,” Cadello told members of the Stafford Board of Supervisors.
The station’s opening is about a year behind schedule. Heavy rain in 2018 delayed construction, said Cardello.
