Commonwealth attorney rules police shooting justified

MANASSAS — Prince William County Commonwealth Attorney Paul Ebert ruled a police shooting that occurred last week in Lake Ridge as justified.

Prince William police issued this statement:

Attempted Malicious Wounding of a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] | Officer Involved Shooting Investigation *COMMONWEALTH ATTORNEY RULING – On August 21, Prince William County Commonwealth Attorney Paul Ebert ruled the actions of the officers in the officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 4300 block of Flodden Ct in Woodbridge on August 15 were justified.

The suspect in the case, Mark Edward JOHNSON, was previously charged with two counts of attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer in connection to the incident and remains hospitalized. Police were called to Johnson’s home at 6:12 a.m. Thursday, August 15 for a report of an argument. Police said Johnson’s wife called 911, and when they arrived they found Johnson holding a knife. Johnson charged police with the knife and officers shot him, according to a police report.

Johnson suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. His wife and children who were home at the time were not injured, police said.
