STAFFORD — A suspect was arrested on numerous charges early Wednesday morning by units with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
On Aug. 13, around 11:50 p.m., Deputy Russo and Deputy Fulford responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle driving in a field at Fredericksburg Motor Sports located at 430 Kings Highway.
They located a set of tire tracks and followed them to the Walmart parking lot.
Surveillance video footage from the store showed the suspect vehicle entering the parking lot at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then drove over an embankment and through a chain link fence.
Additional units responded to the scene and began canvassing the area for the suspect vehicle.
At 12:20 a.m., Deputy Myers located the suspect vehicle near a gate in the area of 382 Kings Highway.
He attempted to block the vehicle, but the suspect vehicle swerved onto the grass and sped away at a high rate of speed.
A pursuit ensued, and Deputy Myers was joined by Sgt. Flick and Sgt. Aubry. During the pursuit, the suspect committed multiple traffic violations.
The pursuit ended on a dirt road adjacent to a cul-de-sac on Pine View Drive when the suspect vehicle got caught in a cluster of trees.
The suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot, prompting Deputy Myers to deploy his K9 partner, Gunner.
The suspect then complied with the deputy’s commands to stop and was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect was identified as Christopher Fritter, 25, of Ruther Glen.
Deputies detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person and observed that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. In addition, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet.
A breath test was subsequently administered.
Deputies also determined that the vehicle driven by the suspect was stolen.
They made contact with the registered owner who was surprised to learn the vehicle had been stolen and advised that he had last seen it parked in his driveway at 9 p.m.
The suspect is charged with grand larceny, eluding police, destruction of property, trespassing, hit and run, reckless driving, obstruction of justice, driving under the influence, driving suspended, vehicle tampering, entering property to damage, felony vandalism, and several traffic-related charges.
He was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
