ROAD WORK: There’s a lot of it in Stafford County this week

STAFFORD — Between the FredEx and diverging diamond interchange projects on Interstate 95, and work on Courthouse Road, there’s a lot for drivers to beware of in Stafford County this week.

Interstate 95 Express Lanes – Fredericksburg Extension

Interstate 95 Southbound
Monday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Saturday. Drivers can expect a single left lane closure overnight on I-95 southbound between mile markers 134 – 136, which is located between Exit 136/Centreport Parkway and Exit 133/Falmouth. Crews will be installing work zone signs and building construction entrances to the median for the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. All lanes will open by 10 a.m. the following morning, expect on Friday, when all lanes reopen by 6 a.m. On Saturday, all lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Interstate 95 at Exit 140 Diverging Diamond Interchange and Courthouse Road Widening Project

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect brief delays with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:

· Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane to Walpole Street and Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive
· Ramoth Church Road
· Snowbird Lane
· Winding Creek Road between Courthouse Road and Embrey Mill Road
· Woodcutters Road
· Wyche Road

Courthouse Road CLOSED and Detour (Friday, Aug. 2 – Monday, Aug. 5)
Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, through 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, Courthouse Road will close to all traffic between Mine Road and Austin Ridge Drive. This will allow crews to finish construction activities to open a new intersection with Austin Ridge Drive west of the current intersection. A traffic signal at the new intersection of Courthouse Road and Austin Ridge Drive will be activated before the morning rush hour on Monday, Aug. 5. Signs will guide motorists along the posted detour route:
· Austin Ridge Drive
· Shields Road
· Mine Road

Here’s a list of other roadwork planned for Stafford County this week, from the Virginia Department of Transportation:

Interstate 95 Northbound near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway
Monday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Crews will continue to mill and pave I-95 northbound between mile markers 135 and 137, near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. One northbound lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. each night. Also, the I-95 on- and off-ramps to Centreport Parkway will be closed. Drivers should access I-95 northbound at Exit 133/Falmouth or Exit 140/Courthouse Road. All I-95 northbound lanes and ramps will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.

Interstate 95 Southbound near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway
Wednesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Crews will begin milling and paving I-95 southbound between mile markers 137 – 135 , near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. One southbound lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. each night. All I-95 southbound lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound
Sunday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m., This will be an overnight mobile operation to allow crews to widen the shoulders to improve safety and operations along the Route 1 corridor between Truslow Road and Hospital Center Boulevard. Expect single lane closures on Route 1 at the following locations:
· From Truslow Road to Layhill Road
· From N. State Shop Road to Hospital Center Boulevard

Route 3 Westbound
Wednesday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m., Crews will be widening the shoulders along Route 3 westbound from West Cleek Lane to the Stafford/King George County line to improve safety along the roadway. This will be a mobile operation with single lane closures on Route 3 westbound in that area.

Route 3 Eastbound and Westbound
Sunday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m., Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m.– 3 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m.– 12 p.m. Expect single lane closures with asphalt and drainage work on Route 3 eastbound and westbound between Cool Springs Road and the Blue and Gray Parkway.

Route 17 at Route 634 (Hemp Road)
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect a short duration of lane, shoulder and turn lane closures near this intersection to allow crews to upgrade signage at the crossover.

Route 616 (Poplar Road)
Thursday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating one-way traffic on Route 616 (Poplar Road) between Hartwood Road and the Fauquier/Stafford County line to allow crews to place stone along the shoulders and install pavement markings after recent pavement work. A flagging crew will direct drivers through the work zone.

Route 645 (Dunbar Road)
Thursday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect flagging operations on Route 645 (Dunbar Road) between Tacketts Mill Road and Rock Hill Church Road to allow crews to place stone along the shoulders and install pavement markings after recent pavement work.

Flashing Yellow Arrow
Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Crews will install traffic signal equipment to display a flashing yellow arrow at the following intersections, along with high-visibility signal back plating. The flashing yellow arrow signal helps drivers turn left safely against oncoming traffic. Be alert to flaggers in the work zone to direct drivers through the intersection. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Expect brief delays.
Expect mobile lane closures in the work zone at the following locations:

· Route 1 and Aquia Park entrance
· Route 1 and Route 637 (Telegraph Road)
· Route 1 and Corporate Drive
· Route 610 and Vulcan Quarry Road
· Route 610 and Route 643 (Joshua Road) and Route 1875 (Algrace Boulevard)
· Route 627 (Mountain View Road), Route 1209 (Choptank Road) and Mountain View High School entrance
· Route 627 (Mountain View Road) and Route 648 (Shelton Shop Road)
