Stafford to New York City bus service starts May 25

STAFFORD COUNTY — A new bus service will take riders from Stafford County to New York City.

Starting with a three-day run May 25 -27 then continuing full time, four-days-a-week on June 15, the Fredericksburg region will get its very own stop on a bus run to New York City, with the following additional stops:

  • Richmond
  • Springfield
  • Washington, DC (limited service)
  • New York (primary destination)

The bus stop is located at the Route 17 Commuter lot, at 627 Warrenton Road in south Stafford. Bus passengers may be dropped off, or leave their cars parked at the lot overnight.

OurBus, a transportation startup, has dozens of regular routes in the Northeast, as well as other parts of the country.

This route is notable because OurBus will take only 6-7 hours, compared to 8 hours on Greyhound, as it makes fewer stops.

This route is also competitive to Amtrak, which takes 5 – 5.5 hours and charges fares of $80-150.

OurBus fares will be $25-$45. The service is similar to other bus operators MegaBus, BoltBus, and DC2NY, to name a few.

When it comes to overnight parking at commuter lots in the Fredericksburg area, right now, there’s no limit on how many days drivers may leave their cars parked.

However, that’s about to change, says Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Kelly Hannon.

“VDOT Park & Ride lots were established to support ridesharing and use of mass transit, so passengers are welcome to use these lots for this purpose.

Overnight parking is permitted, however, we will be installing regulatory signs this summer notifying Park & Ride lot users that motorists should not leave their vehicle unattended for more than 10 consecutive days. Vehicles left longer than 10 consecutive days will be towed at the owner’s expense.

These signs are being installed to address an increasing number of vehicles, boats, and trailers that are being left unattended in the lot for an extended period of time, or even abandoned. We will be issuing a news release when the new signs are posted.”
