Expect traffic changes around Wyche Road starting May 16

STAFFORD – Changes in Wyche Road will bring new traffic patterns along Courthouse Road and the temporary park and ride commuter lot.

Wyche Road traffic in Stafford will be shifted onto a new alignment next week as construction crews continue to rebuild the I-95 Exit 140 interchange and widen Courthouse Road from two to four lanes.

If weather allows, the new Wyche Road alignment will open at a new intersection with Courthouse Road on May 16. The shift should happen after the morning’s peak travel time.

When the road opens, Wyche Road will still be under construction. There will be temporary traffic patterns, signs, pavement conditions, and pavement markings. An additional traffic shift on Wyche Road will happen at a later date in order to finish construction.

Starting on Thursday, anyone driving on Courthouse Road to get to Wyche Road must use the new intersection, which is slightly east of the current intersection. Drivers will no longer be able to access Wyche Road from the entrance to the temporary Park & Ride commuter lot and traffic signal.

Message boards will be posted on Wyche Road and Courthouse Road before and after the shift to notify drivers about these changes.

Traffic signals have been installed at the intersection of the new Wyche Road at Courthouse Road, but they will not be active until summer/fall 2019 when construction of Florida Rock Drive is completed. Florida Rock Drive will serve as the entrance and exit to the existing Park & Ride commuter lot from Courthouse Road, using the new Wyche Road location.

When the project is complete, the finished commuter lot will have two additional entrances. Both entrances will be on Old Courthouse Road, which will be the new name of the existing Courthouse Road.
