Prince William plans to shutter General’s Ridge Golf Course

MANASSAS PARK — Plans are in the works to shutter the Generals Ridge Golf Course in Manassas Park.

Prince William County operates the golf course, which is located on land in the independent city of Manassas Park.

“We’re losing about $250,000 to $300,000 a year on this golf course,” said Prince William County Coles District Supervisor Marty Nohe. “Frankly, there are better-run, private golf courses nearby.”

Nohe said there’s a handshake agreement between the county and the city. A public hearing on the matter is scheduled to take place at the Prince William County Government Center at 1 County Complex in Woodbridge on May 7.

If the golf course closes, city officials say they will be presented with new opportunities for the property which it will control.

“If the transfer does indeed take place, the [Manassas Park] Department of Parks and Recreation is going to be tasked with identifying various uses for the land and presenting the ideas to city leaders who will decide which idea will be the most logical use for the space that’s best for the city,” said city marketing manager for parks and recreation Jason Shriner.

General’s Ridge is one of four county-run, public golf courses. The others include Forest Greens Golf Club near Quantico, Lake Ridge Golf Course, and Prince William Golf Course in Nokesville.

All of them consistently lose money, said Nohe.

The closest private golf courses to Generals Ridge are Bristow Manor on Valley View Drive and Westfields Golf Club on Balmoral Greens Avenue near Centreville.

General’s Ridge Golf Course is located at 9701 Manassas Drive in Manassas Park.
