FREDERICKSBURG — Here’s a look at your Interstate 95 traffic hot spots for the coming week.
With projects to extend the I-95 E-ZPass Express Lanes from North Stafford to Route 17, and a separate project to build a new bridge over the Rappahannock River to separate I-95 local traffic from long-distance drivers, you’ll want to keep alert on the highway.
I-95 Express Lanes
Tuesday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m., Friday – Saturday 8 p.m. – 10 a.m. Motorists will encounter a single lane closure at various locations inside of the I-95 Express Lanes facility from just north of Exit 143/Garrisonville to Quantico for geotechnical boring work and utilitiy marking for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
I-95 Northbound
Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) in Stafford County
Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound near Exit 133, just north of the Rappahannock River bridge in Stafford. Expect heavy truck traffic between mile marker 132 and mile marker 134. Be alert to trucks slowing down to enter or exit the median at various construction entrances throughout the work zone. The work zone is needed for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing.

Near Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)
Expect alternating single lane closures and shoulder closures on I-95 southbound from mile marker 135, just south of Exit 136/Centreport Parkway in Stafford County to Exit 130 (Route 3) in Fredericksburg for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing.

Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m., Friday – Saturday 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. Motorists will encounter a single lane closure on I-95 southbound between Exit 148 (Quantico) in Prince William County to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) in Stafford County for geotechnical boring work and utility marking for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
Near Exit 140 (Route 630/Stafford)
Wednesday – Thursday, 4 a.m. – 10 a.m. A single lane will be closed on I-95 southbound between mile marker 142 and mile marker 139 near Exit 140 (Route 630/Stafford) for construction activities in connection with the Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening project.
Near Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
Tuesday, 12 noon – 3:30 p.m., Wednesday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. A single lane closure will be in place on I-95 southbound betweem mile marker 135 and mile marker 134 located near Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) for geotechnical boring work and utility marking for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
Near Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)
Expect alternating single lane closures and shoulder closures on I-95 southbound from mile marker 135, just south of Exit 136/Centreport Parkway in Stafford County to Exit 130 (Route 3) in Fredericksburg for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing.
• Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m.
• Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.
• Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.
Route 1 Northbound and Southbound: Fredericksburg Area
During the next two weeks, drivers on Route 1 northbound and southbound in Caroline, Stafford and Spotsylvania counties should expect delays for a northbound mobile operation and a southbound single lane closure at various locations between the Hanover County line and the Prince William County line.
Crews are installing centerline rumble strips and refreshing the pavement markings in the mobile work zone.
Drivers on Route 1 northbound will encounter a slow-moving mobile operation at various locations. Drivers on Route 1 southbound will encounter a single lane closure in the vicinity of the northbound mobile operation. The mobile operation began in Caroline County at the Hanover County line and is continuing northbound on Route 1 each day between 7:30 p.m. – 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. No work will take place this week until noon on Tuesday, April 23.
