Updated: Stafford County cleans up after deadly severe storm

Update 1 p.m.

Stafford County officials tell us that residents are entering the clean-up phase of the recovery from the sudden storm. Below is information designed to assist in storm recovery:

  • Landfill Fee Waiver – The Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board (R-Board) temporarily waived fees for the disposal of yard debris from residents immediately through April 29, 2019, at the Regional Landfill at Eskimo Hill. The waiver applies only to the disposal by residents, not commercial firms, and is only in effect at the Eskimo Hill site. Commercial trash service trucks will not pick up debris that is placed in front of your home. If it does not fit in the trashcans provided, individuals must transport the waste to the landfill themselves.
  • Building Inspectors – If you have structural damage and need to contact a building inspector to evaluate, please call Stafford’s Public Works Department at (540) 658-8950.
  • Generator Safety – If residents are using generators, they should be extremely cautious and not use the generator inside their home or garage because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. They should also use flashlights rather than candles because of the risk of fires.
  • Downed Power Lines – Stay away from downed power lines. Call 911 to report downed power lines. Do not touch them.
  • Power Outages – To report outages to Dominion Power, call (866) 366-4357 or visit www.dominionenergy.com/outages. Rappahannock Electric outages may be reported by calling (800) 552-3904 or by visiting www.myrec.coop/outagecenter.

Fallen Trees – Call VDOT at 1-800-367-ROAD (1-800-367-7623).

A 78-year-old woman in Stafford County was killed early today when a tree fell on her.
