Upcoming events at Washington Heritage Museums

FREDERICKSBURG — (Press Release) Washington Heritage Museums have many events coming up in April and May.

April 21, 2019
12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

All locations for Easter.

April 27, 2019 – Annual Plant Sale at the Mary Washington House
9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Mary Washington House

Garden Week 2019 will begin with our annual plant sale on the Mary Washington House lawn. Come early for the best selection. The sale features dozens of varieties of perennials including varieties from the gardens of the Washington Heritage Museums. All proceeds directly benefit the gardens.

April 27 – May 4, 2019 – Garden Week 2019
Mary Washington House

The gardens of Mary Washington House will be open and free to the public during regular museum hours throughout Garden Week. Our Colonial Revival garden peaks this time of year with tulips, iris and native columbine.

April 29 – May 4, 2019 – St. James’ House Spring Opening
1 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the St. James’ House

St. James’ House at 1300 Charles St. in Fredericksburg is open to the public for tours only two weeks a year; a week in the spring and a week in the fall. Visitors can tour the St. James’ House during its spring opening to see its beautiful collection of antiques and decorative arts. Admission is $5 per person, free for members.

May 2, 2019 – Speaker Series
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library Fredericksburg

May’s speaker will be Jarod Kearney, Assistant Director and Curator of James Monroe Museum. Mr. Kearney’s lecture is entitled, “Preserving Family Heirlooms.” The lecture will be held at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library (Fredericksburg) at 10am on Thursday, May 2, in the Theater Room.

May 4, 2019 – 50th Garden Anniversary Celebration

12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mary Washington House

We’re pleased to announce our 50th Garden Anniversary Celebration Saturday May 4, 2019 at the Mary Washington House. The event will include period costumed volunteers and refreshments. We’ll be hosting an exhibit, the first of its kind, in the north wing of the museum. It will include photos, postcards, paintings and memorabilia of the garden from past to present.  Admission to the exhibit will be included with house museum tour and will be offered at discount of $5.00 adult $1.00 for student/child.

In 1969 the Garden Club of Virginia generously designed and donated the revitalized garden to the Mary Washington House Museum. The work included transplanting existing boxwood, planting perennials appropriate to the era, creating a kitchen garden, laying brick along Mary’s path and erecting a period design well cover and privy.

May 4, 2019 – Charles Washington’s Birthday and Lawn Games
12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rising Sun Tavern

Celebrate Charles Washington’s Birthday with a tour of his home, lawn games in the garden, and cupcakes! Included with admission.
