Donald E.Loyd Strickland (SFC, USA, Ret.), age 88, of Lorton, VA, formerly of Strasburg, VA, passed away on April 4, 2019. Beloved husband of more than 60 years to the late Darlene Marie (Stanley) Strickland. Loving father of Lorraine Schneider (Bill Schneider), Wyatt Strickland (Tamsen), Robert Strickland (Matthew White), and Jeffrey Strickland (Tina). Cherished grandfather of Ashley Artone (Army Captain Thomas Artone), Jessalyn Babione (Andrew), Jason Strickland (Caitie), Loriann Schneider, and Gregory Strickland (Destiny Peer). Great grandfather of Aubree Artone, Lilly Artone, and Lucas Strickland. Dear brother of Ernestine Byrd, Frances Owen, and Dorothy Sanchez. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Strickland. Donald was the son of the late Ossie G. and Fannie (Collins) Strickland.
Donald proudly served our country for over 20 years in the United States Army, where he retired as a Sergeant First Class. He then worked as a transportation specialist for Civil Service. When he was able to relax, Donald enjoyed Country Western Music, working in the yard, and watching NASCAR. He was a fan of the Washington Redskins, and the Washington Nationals. His family, especially his grandchildren were the apple of his eye.
The family will receive friends at the Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Boulevard, Dale City, VA 22193 on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 11:00AM until the time of His Life Celebration at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, where he will be reunited with his wife Darlene.

A wanted Woodbridge man led police on a high-speed chase down I-95 before being captured by Stafford deputies and Virginia State Police. Gideon Owusu, Jr., 31, faces charges including malicious wounding of a police officer, reckless driving, DUI, and larceny. Meanwhile, deputies responded to a fight at Planet Fitness, fraudulent ATM withdrawals, a hit-and-run, and shoplifting at Dollar General and ABC Store. A mailbox was also vandalized with fireworks.

In a unique and chilly demonstration, residents of Fredericksburg gathered Wednesday to protest a proposed data center development near the Rappahannock River by building snowmen.
Organized by the Rappahannock Community Coalition, the âSnowmen Against Data Centersâ rally took place just one day after nearly 10 inches of snow blanketed the region. The snowmen were erected on the Mary Washington University Campus, City Hall, and a house off Harrell Road in Stafford County.
