MANASSAS — (Press release) While parents in Virginia might complain about trailers in elementary schools that would actually be a step up for the students of the Toussaint Louverture School in Corail Soult, Haiti.
A charity in Manassas is trying to help.
The Omnesbarthelemy Foundation, run by Violette Barthelemy is on a quest to raise $80,000 to build a new school for the 150 students who receive a free education, two meals, and even school uniforms.
“In this rural part of Haiti, many students don’t have a chance for more education than elementary school, so our vision is to have a program that goes through High School and offers technical training for the students so they are employable,” said Barthelemy.
The current secondary school enrollment rate in Haiti is 20 percent and can be even lower in rural areas.
As part of their goal to reach $80,000, the Omnesbarthelemy Foundation invites the community to an Art Night Fundraiser on Saturday, April 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Olde Towne Inn in Downtown Manassas.
“We’ll be selling art from professional Haitian artists, and enjoying appetizers. We’ll also share more about our organization and purpose,” said Barthelemy.
Tickets for individuals are priced at $25. Corporations interested in becoming sponsors of the event or the school program may contact Violette Barthelemy directly.
Tickets may be purchased online.
