NORTH STAFFORD — Drivers on Garrisonville Road should get ready to see more flashing yellow signal lights.
The Virginia Department of Transportation will install a new flashing yellow signal light at the intersection of Garrisonville Road (Route 610) and Parkway Boulevard, at the entrance to Park Ridge.
The flashing yellow light tells drivers it’s OK to turn left but to watch out for oncoming traffic. During the full signal cycle, the light will change from a flashing yellow to green to permit protected left turns while oncoming traffic is stopped.
Afterward, just like a regular signal light, the signal changes from yellow to red, presenting left turns. A few seconds later, the light begins flashing yellow again to allow left turns for drivers who yield to oncoming traffic.
Kelly Hannon, VDOT spokeswoman, says the agency is also looking at the possibility of installing these flashing yellow lights at four more intersections on Route 610.
Those 4 intersections are:Â
- Route 610 and Center Street
- Route 610 and Eustace Road
- Route 610 and Shelton Shop Road
- Route 610 and Wolverine Way
The state agency will see if these intersections meet the criteria for these lights. Is expected to make a decision my end of summer, and if they do, the intersections will see the new lights as funding for them becomes available, says Hannon.
VDOT is studying the installation of these new lights across the region under its Districtwide Flashing Yellow Arrow Project. Similar lights are also being installed in Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline counties.
