Going to ‘Gods of Carnage?’ You might see a charge from ‘GABES’

FREDERICKSBURG — Ticket holders to an upcoming “Gods of Carnage” show at The University of Mary Washington’s Klein Theater today received a notice from theater director Jon Reynolds notifying them something strange may show up on their credit card statements.

Reynolds assured ticket holders their information was not hacked.

From an email:

“For the past three months, we have been in transition to a new online ticketing system. We did not want to make this change during the season but, unfortunately, our previous vendor raised our licensing fee to a level that was beyond prudent stewardship of our precious resources. This has been a complicated process that has not been without its challenges.

We hate to say this but our bank made an error while setting up our credit card processor and the funds for your recent purchase were credited to the business name, “GABES”. You may recognize this (as I did) on your credit card statement. We were told by our credit card processor that everything was fine, but that turned out not to be the case. Much to our dismay, our box office revenue was not finding its way into our account.

What does this mean for you? Essentially, the bank will reverse the payment made to the wrong company, and resubmit your payment to the UMW Theatre Box Office. This will likely appear as a refund from “GABES” for the exact amount you paid, and then a new charge to “University of Mary Washington-Ticket Sales” for the same amount.

What is important to UMW Theatre, FredTix.com, and YOU is that this is not a data breach, but merely a mistake in crediting receipts to the appropriate account. Your information has not been stolen or misused in any way.”

Reynolds says ticket holders will still be admitted to the show. Anyone with questions is encouraged to call 540-654-2233.
