‘Steel Magnolias,’ MLK celebration upcoming events at Hylton Center

MANASSAS — (Press Release) The Hylton Performing Arts Center schedule of performances in January and February 2019 is a testament to the diverse and accessible arts experiences the Hylton Center has to offer.

The beginning months of 2019 are filled with thrilling productions as part of the Hylton Center’s four main series: Hylton Presents, Hylton Family Series, Matinee Idylls, and American Roots Series. Tickets for these and other events are available at HyltonCenter.org.

The Hylton Presents winter schedule consists of a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. January 20 with We Shall Overcome; a refined interpretation of classical symphonic repertoire from the Shanghai Opera Symphony Orchestra on February 8; a radio-style production of L.A. Theatre Works’ reimagined timeless story of Steel Magnolias on February 9; and an inventive circus-style production performed by acrobats and aerialists by Cirque Mechanics February 23.

The 2018/2019 Hylton Family Series continues with a stage adaptation of the ever-lovable childhood tale, The Phantom Tollbooth on January 26, and Matinee Idylls returns with a lunch and concert experience featuring Russian-American classical guitarist Piotr Pakhomkin February 12. The American Roots Series program features the debut of Americana-folk Indie trio Maybe April February 16, raved by Billboard Magazine as “the next emerging trend in country music.”

Events take place at the Hylton Performing Arts Center located at 10960 George Mason Circle in Manassas, Virginia. Attendees will explore downtown, tasting a diverse selection of soups—from classic Tomato Basil Bisque to bold Pork Belly Ramen and Cocoa Cloud Dessert Soup—served at various businesses. Participants will vote for their favorite, crowning one soup the ultimate winner. With new contenders and returning favorites, the event promises a flavorful journey. Missed out this year?
