Courthouse Road traffic shift Tuesday

FREDERICKSBURG – (PRESS RELEASE) Starting early Tuesday, Nov. 27, all Courthouse Road traffic will shift to new pavement between Colonial Forge High School and Snowbird Lane in Stafford County. The traffic shift comes as construction advances to widen Courthouse Road from two lanes to four lanes and rebuild the Interstate 95 Exit 140 interchange to a diverging diamond. Message boards are posted to alert motorists to the new traffic pattern.

On Monday, Nov. 26, crews will begin work to shift Courthouse Road traffic to the new pavement. A flagging crew will direct alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road from Colonial Forge High School to Snowbird Lane starting at 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday. The crew will return at 7 p.m. to direct drivers in the work zone until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27. Drivers are advised to use caution in the work zone as they navigate the new section of roadway.

Courthouse Road will remain two lanes. The temporary traffic pattern will have drivers traveling in the future eastbound lanes, while construction continues to build the future westbound lanes. Crews will continue to move west to east with the widening work of Courthouse Road after shifting traffic to new pavement from slightly west of Ramoth Church Road to Colonial Forge High School earlier this year. Following the second traffic shift, crews will build a new section of road from Snowbird Lane to Mine Road.

The widening project is aimed to accommodate future growth by increasing capacity and improving safety throughout the Courthouse Road corridor. According to a recent traffic count, approximately 10,000 vehicles a day travel Courthouse Road between I-95 and Shelton Shop Road.

The entire project is expected to be complete by July 2020.
