She later called the number again to request a refund and a subject, who identified himself as “Steve”, directed her to a website that appeared to give him one-time access to her bank account. He told her he accidentally transferred $3000.00 instead of $300.00. He told the victim to make up the difference by buying several thousand dollars in gift cards and providing him with the gift card numbers. Steve told her the gift cards were not going through, so advised her to buy another $2500.00 in gift cards, and her card was declined when trying to purchase them. At this point, the victim realized she was involved in a scam. The investigation is ongoing.
