Start date is August 22, 2018 in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, China. · The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) needs an administrative volunteer age 55 or better to help at the Alternative Service Program one or 2 mornings a week. · Literacy Volunteers Prince William is gearing up for their next tutor training workshop in July. This is the perfect way to give a helping hand to an adult working on the skill set. Training begins Saturday July 14th, 8:45-4pm and finishes Saturday July 28th, 9-12 noon. You’ll gain all the skills needed to be extremely effective. · PW Conservation Alliance has several fun workdays coming up. · SERVE in Manassas has an urgent need for volunteers on Friday June 29th for the Annual Inventory of the food warehouse. Volunteers must be age 16+ and able to do moderate lifting. · K9s Serving Vets in Triangle, Virginia supports the process of partnering the vet with a service dog. They assist from start to finish that will in the end change the veteran’s life. Please consider donating to them online at: k9sservingvets.org.
· The PW Crime Prevention Council is looking for new volunteer members to promote safe communities. The Council meeting the 2nd. Monday of the month at 7:30pm at 1 County Complex. Please register on the website at: pwcpc.org.

· Mark your calendars for Saturday August 25th for the 3rd Annual Farm to Table event to support the Prince William Environmental Excellence Foundation at Windy Knoll Farm. The event runs from 3-8pm with 2 seating’s for dinner. Tickets are just $40 for adults, $20 for children 13-18 and free for kids under 12. · The Manassas Senior Center is looking for a volunteer to teach crafts to the members of the center each week. Come share your love of knitting, crocheting, painting, ceramics and such with others. · Youth for Tomorrow is looking for volunteers to share hobbies and interests with the kids on weekends. · The Greater Prince William Medical Reserve Corps needs both medical and non-medical volunteers to join their ranks. Planet Fitness opened its first location in Stafford. The new 30,900-square-foot facility, located at 1455 Stafford Market Place in the Stafford Market Place shopping center, is designed to provide a welcoming, judgment-free environment for individuals at all fitness levels.
The building used to house a Best Buy that announced its closure one year ago after 16 years in business. Our coverage of the closure was some of the most-read content on Potomac Local News in 2024.
The Stafford location features state-of-the-art equipment, including strength machines, free weights, a dedicated area for high-intensity interval training (HIIT), and a functional training room with turf for agility exercises. Members can also access amenities such as fully equipped locker rooms with showers, a mobility and stretching space, and free WiFi.
A highlight of the facility is the Black Card Spa, available to those who pay for a higher membership tier. The spa includes Hydro Massage Loungers, massage chairs, recovery loungers, and salon-grade tanning beds, offering members an opportunity to relax and recover post-workout.
Called to Jail
A 44-year-old man found himself back at Rappahannock Regional Jail after making a false report and harassing a jail officer with obscene phone calls. Initially, deputies responded to a call about a death and gunshot outside the jail, which turned out to be false. The suspect, located at a local motel, was arrested and charged with using obscene language and filing a false report.
Assault
– Marion Manor Nursing Home: A staff member assaulted another during a disagreement. The suspect was charged with assault and battery and held without bond.
– Shasta Place: A male suspect bit the victim during a verbal altercation. He was charged with assault and battery but released on personal recognizance.
DUI
Deputies discovered a car in a ditch on Courthouse Road. The driver admitted to drinking beer, with three empty cans found in her vehicle. She was charged with DUI, drinking while driving, and refusal, and held on a $3,000 bond.
Hit and Run
A vehicle struck a VDOT sign and two unoccupied trucks at EZ Auto Sales before the driver fled. Deputies identified the suspect using evidence left in the vehicle, and warrants for hit and run and property destruction were issued.
