Prince William County’s tourism office aims to work with business to bring in more weddings, tour groups

WOODBRIDGE — Looking to hold an event in Prince Willam County?

The office of tourism wants to help by connecting you with the owners of venues and area event planners. The county’s office of tourism wants to attract events like reunions, parties, weddings, or meetings of groups of 10 or more.

Bringing more people to the county not only builds awareness of the area but also increases the amount of transient occupancy taxes collected. Overall, the office has contributed $571 million to the local economy, according to spokesman Dan Cook.

Prince William County Coles District Supervisor Marty Nohe applauds the effort to bring more people to the region.

“I do not think that this program is about wedding planning but rather about promoting Prince William County businesses.  Weddings bring a lot of people into the county who stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, and of course take advantage of all of the services associated with the wedding itself, all of which support our business climate,” states Nohe in an email.

The office of tourism is building a list of vendors to refer prospective clients.

“When the Office of Tourism receives an inquiry from a prospective visitor or event planner, staff provides their contact information and a summary of their request and shares this information as a lead to hotels, venues, restaurants, and attractions within Prince William County who may be able to meet their needs. We strive to maintain a comprehensive list of Prince William County hospitality and tourism-related businesses,” states Cook in an email.

Any business interested in receiving tourism leads from the department should call 703-792-8420.

The Prince William County Office of Tourism was created last year when the old organization with representatives from both Prince William County and Manassas, Discover Prince William, was dissolved. The county’s new office of tourism now operates under the county parks and recreation division.
