Another Woodbridge brewery is closing

WOODBRIDGE — Another brewery in Woodbridge will close its doors.

Ornery Brewery located at the Potomac Festival Shopping Center across from Potomac Mills mall will close Monday, March 12.

Formerly Hard Times Cafe, Ornery was the first brewery to open in Woodbridge, and the first brewpub to open in Prince William County. Owner Randy Barnette transitioned the old restaurant and cue club into the brewpub in 2015.

Barnette cites high rent as the reason for his decision to shutter his business.

“Unfortunately, or 12,000 square feet size and the nearly $24,000 monthly rent has been too much to overcome,” penned Barnette in a letter posted to the company’s Facebook page.

The brewery took home gold awards at both The Great American Beer Festival and at the Virginia Beer Cup during its tenure in Woodbridge.

Barnette said he’s looking at moving his business to a new location. However, although no details are final. If he does reopen, Barnette said the brewery will not be as large.

The closure comes after Heroic Aleworks closed its doors on January 28. The brewery was located in the Farm Creek Business Center in Woodbridge.

“We gave it our best shot, but it turns out that the obstacles we face are insurmountable after all,” the brewery penned on its Facebook page on January 14.

Though closed, Heroic Aleworks today posted to the same Facebook page its condolences for Ornery Brewery and its fans, and employees. They urged customers to get over to Ornery to grab “a few last beers before next Monday.”
