PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Prince William leaders will spend $3.6 million for new land at the county’s public safety training center.
The 148-acre land grab will more than double the size of the grounds where police, fire, and rescue workers train.
From county budget documents:
“The needed space includes classrooms, administrative space, auditorium, high bay, residential burn building, fuel facility, expanded firearms range(s), Public Works hub, and building mock-up.
In addition, land acquisition (140 acres) is needed to support this expansion. A fuel facility and additional parking are needed to support the daily activity at the center.”
The need to train more public safety workers to meet the demand of the county’s growing population is the reason for the expansion, according to county documents.
The funds to complete the purchase were made available in last year’s county budget.
In addition to career firefighters, the county’s volunteer firefighters are also trained here.
