Virginia Louise “Jennie” Lawrence, age 58, passed away peacefully in her home on February 22, 2018. She is survived by her mother, Patricia Louise Munson Lawrence of Richmond; three sisters: Patty Lawrence Harper (Wayne) of Staunton; Alva Lawrence Latta (Don) of Richmond; and Mary Ann Lawrence Rumsey of Cross Junction; and five nieces and one nephew. She is predeceased by her father, Albert Wesley Lawrence.
Jennie was born in Page County on July 24, 1959. She had an Associate’s Degree from Ferrum College, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Perdue University, and went on to earn a Master’s degree (MBA) from Stratford University in 2015. She had a passion for education and was the founder of the non-profit organization, 3rd Goal: Gender Equality and Empowering Women Inc. Through her non-profit, Jennie worked with many low-income and disadvantaged youth, in the Woodbridge area, by providing volunteer and educational services. Her partnership with Ebenezer Baptist Church, which began in May 2015, has grown the after school tutoring program to over 10 tutors for elementary, middle, and high school age children where there is a concentration on subjects such as Math, Reading, and Spanish. Her passion for helping others was also evident in her 16 years of working in healthcare.
A celebration of life will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church on April 5, 2018 following the nightly tutoring session. The family will have a private burial at a later date.
