Jean S. Nielsen
Jean S. Nielsen of Lansdowne, VA., beloved wife of the late Frederick W. Nielsen, passed away Sunday October 1, 2017. Jean was a 53-year resident of Potomac, MD where she and Fred raised their family and resided until 2006.
Jean was an avid gardener who served as a president of the Potomac Home and Garden Club. She was an original member of the Our Lady of Mercy Sodality and a volunteer at Byron House, the parish residence for the elderly.
Jean was the loving mother of Linda Merritt (Michael) of Mesa, AZ, Nancy Sitler (Edward) of Manassas, VA and Donna Nielsen, now Sister Mary Faith O.P., of the Dominican order. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Michael Merritt, Leigh Sitler and Owen Sitler.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Jean on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, MD. 20854. Interment will follow for Jean and Fred Nielsen at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Cemetery 10706 Alloway Drive, Potomac, MD. Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Dominican Monastery of Our Lady of Grace, 11 Race Hill Rd., N. Guilford, CT 06437.
