Violet Woodena Colvin (91) was born on Oct. 28, 1925 in DeKalb Co., Indiana. There she graduated from Manchester College in 1947 and in Auburn, Indiana, she taught 4th grade then became the elementary school principal. Woodena married Woodrow W. Colvin in 1963, who she met through a college friend married to Woodrow’s cousin.
They settled in Manassas. Woodrow was quoted as saying that marrying Woodena was the best thing he ever did.
Woodena was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for 38 years. She also was highly involved with the Manassas Church of Brethren, its women’s groups, and community. She and Woodrow enjoyed gardening and once he retired, traveling-49 states and Europe. In her spare time, she was an avid cross-stitcher and reader, always an educator. When Woodrow passed in 2007, Woodena moved into assisted living arrangements.
Woodena was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Freeman Fifer, a brother
Cecil, sisters Vara Falconer and Wava Diehl, and 2 nephews, Lloyd and Dale Falconer.
She is survived by 5 nieces, their husbands, children, grandchildren, and nephew’s
extended families. Nieces: Sharon Kessler (Diehl) of Ohio, Ginger Sarkarati (Falconer) of FL, Patricia Jones(Diehl) of CO, and Phyllis Hall (Diehl) and Cindy Wigley (Diehl) both of VA.
The ‘COOL’ aunt who taught us how to play a multitude of games will be missed.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00PM Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Manassas Church of the Brethren, 10047 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia where funeral services will be held at 2:00PM with Rev. Mandy North officiating.
Interment will follow at the Cannon Branch Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made the Manassas Church of the Brethren, 10047 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia or a charity of your choice.
