Time is running out for summer reading, but it’s not too late

Time is running out, but it’s not too late!

Explore Summer Reading 2017

With school just around the corner, it is time to dust off those thinking caps and get ready to learn. But don’t do it alone, stop by your closest Prince William Public Library branch and score some fun prizes while getting back in the groove.

In less than six visits (YES, six visits), you will have the opportunity to win some amazing food coupons, free books and be entered to win a brand-new flip laptop (for kids) or a Beats Pill by Dre® (for young adults).  Either visit pwcgov.org/summerreading or head on over to any Prince William Public Library branch to sign up. Once you have your passport (for kids) or punch card (for young adults), just tell us what you’re reading each time you visit the library and watch the stamps and punches roll in.

Don’t worry, adults, because you can participate in Explore Summer Reading, too! You don’t even have to register. Whenever you come into the library, fill out an entry form with the name of a book you’ve read. We will hold a drawing for a Target gift card at each of our eleven branches each week for all nine weeks of summer reading.

We haven’t even gotten to the best part… the EVENTS! We have animals, insects, magic shows, puppets, music, and theater all at the library. For instance, the Hampstead Stage Company will present ”Beauty and the Beast” at Montclair Library, while Uncle Devin will show off his school house rock at Bull Run. For all of you gamers out there, Central Library has an Edge Party Trailer filled with the latest games and consoles coming out. Furthermore, we have solar eclipse viewing parties at happening at several of our branches. And this is all happening in August!

So come and join us to watch, read, learn, and enjoy the last bit of summer, as the programs described above are just a small sampling of the happenings at your Prince William Public Library in August. For a complete calendar, plus admission information, visit our online calendar of events at pwcgov.org/library/events or pick up a copy of our summer 2017 Explore magazine at any branch.

We’d love to see your photos! Tag us in your Explore Summer Reading fun at the library this summer using the hashtag #PWPLSsummer. You can find us on Facebook, Instagram (@pwpls), Pinterest (/pwpls), and Twitter (@PrinceWMlibrary).

Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FXBGO!) announced that transit service, which was suspended on Tuesday due to winter weather, is expected to resume at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8. Residents relying on public transportation are encouraged to plan accordingly and check for updates before traveling.

In addition to transit disruptions, the city’s trash collection schedule has been adjusted. Monday’s missed routes resumed today, and services will shift forward by one day for the remainder of the week. Tuesday’s trash will be collected on Wednesday, Wednesday’s on Thursday, and so on.

The City of Fredericksburg’s Public Works Department continues its efforts to clear snow and ice from roadways. Primary collector roads are reported to be in good condition, but some residential and collector roads remain compacted with snow and ice. Crews are applying plowing and chemical treatments as necessary to address these areas. As temperatures drop overnight, roads may refreeze, and drivers are urged to exercise caution when traveling.

The City also reminds property owners and occupants of their obligation to clear sidewalks adjacent to their properties. Snow and ice must be removed within 12 hours after snowfall ends, or by noon the following day if precipitation occurs overnight or on a Sunday. Sand or abrasives may be used if removal isn’t feasible. Residents and businesses are also responsible for clearing ADA access ramps to ensure safe pedestrian passage.
