Kenneth William Berkemeyer of Catlett Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 13, 2017. He passed on at the Adler Center for Caring, Van Metre Campus, in Aldie Virginia at the age of 82.
Ken was born in Belvedere Gardens, California on January 19, 1935, and remained in California until moving to Virginia in December, 2015. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a pipe fitter welder for the Lever Brothers Company for 32 years before retiring at age 57. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports but in particular college football and horse track racing. What he was most passionate about was his growing love and knowledge of Christ Jesus and his family.
Ken is survived by his loving children; Katherine Aviani, Karen Kettell and husband Kent, of Catlett, Virginia, Brian Berkemeyer and wife Holley, of Freeport, Maine, Bruce Berkemeyer and wife Tana, of Stevenson, Washington, and Teri Spence and husband Shaun, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the devoted grandfather to 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Ken will be peacefully laid to rest in Quantico National Cemetery. There will be an intimate grave side service for immediate family, officiated by Pastor Billy Ross of Centreville Baptist Church.
Special thanks to the staff of the trauma ICU of Inova Fairfax Hospital and Adler Center for Caring for making his last days as peaceful and comfortable as possible. Ken was a firm believer in God and we can rest assured in the knowledge that he is now with our heavenly father. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him and we will always carry his memory forever in our hearts.
