Adam Christopher Capers was born on December 22, 1968 in Cleveland, Ohio to Darrel Capers, Sr. and Debra Coleman, just eight minutes ahead of his twin brother Alan. He departed this life on July 3, 2017 in Okinawa, Japan at the age of 48. Adam was a 1988 James Ford Rhodes High School graduate; he attended his beloved alma-mater Capital University in Columbus, Ohio and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 1996.
Adam was always known as an all-around great guy with a big heart. Adam married his wife Stacey in 2000, two years after he had a serendipitous meeting with her father in 1998. Their union produced two children, Arielle and Evan. Family was Adam’s highest priority. He loved being a father and made sure he spent memorable moments with his family – whether it was playing Legos with his son, taking long drives with his daughter just to talk, or sharing funny stories about his childhood, or going on runs/walks with his wife. He also enjoyed cooking breakfast on the weekends while often Skyping family members; he enjoyed watching Westerns, Sci-Fi movies, and Big 10 games. His other favorite pastime on Saturday evenings was to watch historical profiles and “extreme” reality TV shows on Discovery Channel and National Geographic. A devoted Clevelander, he could tell you anything about the city and is a die-hard fan of the Indians, the Browns, and Cavaliers.
Adam initially professed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ on May 11, 1980 at Eastview United Church of Christ in Cleveland, Ohio. He later rededicated his life to Christ in 2006, while under the ministry of Reverend Elder Burnard Furbush, Sr. and his wife Marilyn – his spiritual parents. He was an active member of Word Alive Church International in Manassas, VA continuing to grow in discipleship, and serving in many parts of the ministry under the leadership of Bishop Wesley T. Cherry, Sr.
Adam began his professional career with Ryerson Tull, Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio. He continued working in business management and procurement at Laughlin, Marionaccio & Owens Advertising, Inc. in Arlington, Virginia, The Chimes, Inc, in Baltimore, Maryland, and then at SourceAmerica in Vienna, VA where he worked as a Senior Project Manager for 10 years. He most recently served as an Administrative Officer for the Department of State.
Since appearing with Stacey on Season 6 of NBC’s, The Biggest Loser in 2008, he prioritized a healthy work/life balance and committed to working out 4 – 5 times a week. Since 2010 until relocating overseas, Adam ran the Turkey Trot in Cleveland on Thanksgiving Day. He also finished the DC Half Marathon in 2010. He volunteered as a soccer coach for two seasons during the family’s time in Okinawa. He was known for spending hours outside maintaining a perfectly manicured lawn. He enjoyed trying out new wine selections at least once a month. He also had an eclectic taste in music; his favorite groups being U2, Depeche Mode, and the Cure.
Adam is survived by his father Darrel and mother Debra; his wife Stacey, and their children Arielle and Evan; his brothers Alan and Darrel, Jr.; his sisters Kayla (Frank), Loreal (LaRon), LeAndra, and Cheyenne; his grandmother Ida; his great uncle Roy, his great aunts Margaret and Ruth, his aunt Olivia (Gary); his uncles Quinn, Charles (Freida), and Mayo; his nephews DeAndre, Dominick, Landon, Leighton, and great nephew Dayton; his parents-in-love Otto and Arlene; his brother-in-love David; and hosts of aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Alice, Oliver and Quinn II; and his great uncle Ted.
