Nannie Gilman

Nannie Gilman was born on December 30, 1919 and passed away on June 5, 2017 at 4 PM at Birmingham Green Nursing Home, Manassas, VA, following a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by Mother Elle Gilman; Father Hei Gilman; Grandfather Big Jim Gilman, Brothers Ray, Basil, Archie, Little Hei, Jim and Bear; Sister and Brother-in-Law Vickie and Johnny Parsons; Sister-in-Law Grace Gilman, Nephew Donald Ray Gilman and Niece Linda Gilman.

Nannie is survived by her only Son, Keather Darrell Gillman and his wife Janet Ann Gillman, who reside in Manassas, VA; Sisters Peggy Stratton and Bertha Reed who live in St. Albans, WV; Sister in Law, Joyce Gilman who lives in Winchester, Ky, Niece Kathy Morlan, who lives in Parkersburg, WV; Nephew William R. Reed, who lives in St. Albans, WV, and Niece Jeannie Parsons who lives in Chesapeake, VA.

During World War II, Nannie worked at the Broom Handle Factory in Williamson, WV. Next she worked at Maynard’s Machine Shop in Williamson, WV. for 30 years. After she retired, she bought a house in St. Albans, WV to live close to her 2 sisters, Peggy Stratton and Bertha Reed. She took care of other people younger than herself who were in need of companionship and meals.

My wife Janet and I will greatly miss her smile, loving manner and sense of humor. Nannie raised and supported me with 18 years of hard work, doing without much for herself, and added a lot of love and light to everyone who came in contact with her. Both Staff & Residents at Birmingham Green were very fond of Nannie because she had a smile for everyone.

Nannie/Mom, rest in peace and may GOD take you into His arms.

Love,
Darrell & Janet

Insidenova.com: A bipartisan coalition of Virginia lawmakers on Tuesday presented a series of bills aimed at addressing the rapid expansion of data centers, which have become a cornerstone of the state’s economy but have raised concerns about energy use, environmental impact, and equitable cost distribution.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin highlighted the industry’s importance during his State of the Commonwealth address Monday, noting that “data centers alone support 74,000 jobs, bring in $9.1 billion in Virginia GDP, and generate billions in local revenue.” He called for Virginia to remain “the data center capital of the world” while ensuring state support for the industry.

However, lawmakers from both parties have emphasized the need for oversight to ensure the industry’s growth is managed responsibly.

The Center Square: Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin delivered the final State of the Commonwealth address of his term Monday after a delayed start to the 2025 General Assembly session, urging the state legislature to “keep Virginia winning” with bills it passes this year.

The governor began his speech by recounting how his administration and the General Assembly have delivered on priorities and policies that have made Virginia stronger.

“In our three years together, we have built strong pillars that support a winning Virginia,” Youngkin said, listing record funding in education and learning loss recovery efforts, $5 billion in tax relief, streamlining “50,000 regulations” as some of their chief accomplishments.
