Ruth Darlene Johnson, age 80 went home to glory on April 21, 2017, after a long illness. She was the widow of Lee Randolph Johnson and celebrated 52 years of marriage until his death in 2004. She was born on September 29, 1936 in Washington, DC, daughter of the late Fred M. and Ruth Zimbro Dove. She was also preceded in death by her brother Herbert Dove of Fairfax.
Ruth was a lifelong Virginia resident and was active in various churches serving as WMU and choir directors as well as a Sunday and Vacation Bible School teacher. An avid gardener, she was active in the Woodbine Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her six children: Faye Henry (Jimmy) of Bealeton; Wanda Wilson (Johnny) of Boone, NC; Deborah Hollingsworth (Eugene) of Madison; Martin Douglas Johnson of Montclair; Pomona Billig of Manassas and Susan Smith (John) also of Manassas. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren who were the joy of her life. She is also survived by six brothers John Dove of Manassas; Ronnie, Marshall and Jerry Dove of Fairfax; Kenneth Dove of Woodbridge and Lapsley Dove of Front Royal and my many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 12:30 PM in Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA with the family receiving friends at 11:30 AM. Interment Stonewall Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation in c/o Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or to Capital Caring Hospice of Aldie, VA.
