From Town of Dumfries Director of Community Services Brittany A. Heine:Â
The Town of Dumfries Police Department is looking for volunteers to help with the “Christmas in Dumfries” event on Saturday December 17, 2016.Â
Christmas in Dumfries is a program in which those in need can apply on behalf of their children with a list of items that the child(ren) would like for Christmas. The Police Department organizes a day near Christmas for this event to take place. The day will start at the Dumfries Walmart where children will be matched with volunteers and can help them pick out the items on their lists. Afterwards there will be a FREE breakfast with Santa that is sponsored by and held at the Dumfries Triangle Rescue Squad on Graham Park Road.
This year’s Christmas in Dumfries event will be held on Saturday, December 17th. Volunteers are needed from approximately 8:00 am to 11:00 am to help the children with shopping. Due to working with minors, volunteers will need to submit a background check form to the Town of Dumfries (unless you have completed a background check with the Town in the last 12 months). Active Duty Military, First Responders, and Police Officers do not have to submit the form. Public School employees and Prince William County employees do not have to submit the form as long as they have a valid school ID or a letter from a supervisor stating that they are in good standing.Â
The Dumfries Police Department is in desperate need of both funding and volunteers to make this event possible. The money used for this event comes entirely from donations by local businesses, organizations, and residents. The amount of children we are able to help depends on how much money we have raised and how many volunteers we have to help us. No amount is too small and all money raised goes towards buying gifts for the children in our community. If you would like to make a donation for this program please contact us at (703) 221-3400. Checks can be made out to The Town of Dumfries with Christmas in Dumfries in the memo. You can also make cash donations at Town Hall on Monday-Friday from 8:30 am -5:00 pm.
If you would be interested in volunteering for this worthy cause, please email me at [email protected] or call (703) 221-3400.
The background form can be found attached to this email. Please fill it out and submit it to me and I will process them free of charge. If you have any questions about the event or would like to make a donation, please contact the Dumfries Police Department at (703) 221-1111.
