There are hundreds of kids that will show up at school with only a sweatshirt on when they should have a warm coat on. You can drop off your donation at any of the 4 United Bank branches in Prince William- Liberia Road, Balls Ford Road, Lake Ridge and Route 1 Dumfries. And the Prince William County Libraries are also collecting coats at the following full-service locations: Chinn Park, Potomac, Montclair, Central, Bull Run and Haymarket/Gainesville branches. · The Potomac River Cleanup at Leesylvania State Park needs volunteers on Saturday, November 12th at 11 am. · Bright Care Center in Manassas provides social and medical services to adults with disabilities. Volunteers are needed daily to pick up the noon lunch meal from Caton Merchant House for the participants. Volunteers are also needed for activities such as crafts, puzzles, music and jewelry making. · The Soroptimist Club of Manassas invites young women ages 14-17 to nominate themselves for their Violet Richardson Award Program. This program celebrates volunteer service to better our community. Please email [email protected] to learn more.
· The SPCA is teaming up with ACTS to provide healthy and safe food alternatives for pets at Thanksgiving. They are collecting pet food that will be distributed to the Operation Turkey families. · Saved Hands Foundation is looking for volunteers to teach Microsoft Office to adults either in the evenings or daytime. The Stafford County Board of Supervisors is considering a zero-tax-increase budget for 2025, which has drawn community members’ support and concern. During the February 4, 2025, meeting, parents and education advocates urged the board to fund Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS) fully, emphasizing the need for higher teacher salaries, facility repairs, and student resources.
Speaking during the public comment period, Shannon Fingerholtz, a parent from the Hartwood District, called on the board to take responsibility for properly funding Stafford schools.
“Our students, our teachers, our staff, our community require a quality school system,” Fingerholtz said. “Quality means decently paid staff, buildings in good repair, and adequate materials. These all require funding.”
