2nd annual ‘We Love You Blue’ planned for Sept. 24

Submitted:

A local nonprofit civic group will host an event on Saturday, September 24 to show appreciation for local law enforcement and the entire community is invited. The Second Annual “We Love You Blue” community rally is hosted by the “We Love You Blue” organization to honor the Prince William County Police Department, Dumfries Police Department, U.S. Marshalls Office and Sheriff’s Department. The rally will take place at the VFW Post 1503 (14631 Minnieville Rd, Dale City, VA) from 11am to 1pm. No RSVP is required.

In addition to showing appreciation for law enforcement, the goal of the event is also to help young people build positive relationships with local police. The law enforcement offices will bring patrol cars, motorcycles, a crime prevention unit, a SWAT vehicle, and a command unit for children to explore and play in. Food will be provided and complimentary child identification cards will be made on site.

A bipartisan group of leaders will deliver short remarks at the rally, including Delegate Rich Anderson (VA-51), former Delegate Michael Futrell (VA-02), Delegate Scott Lingamfelter (VA-31), Potomac School Board Member Justin Wilk and Occoquan Board of County Supervisor Ruth Anderson. Prince William Police Chief Barry Barnard will also attend and speak.

The inaugural “We Love You Blue” rally took place last November at Heritage Baptist Church in Woodbridge. The idea of the rally came from Angela Beckles, founder of the “We Love You Blue” nonprofit group.

“Our local law enforcement do an outstanding job of keeping us safe, and that’s why so many of us love living in Prince William County,” Beckles. “There has been unrest between police and communities all across America. I’m sure it’s a tough time to be a police officer, so we want to show support and respect for the police.”
