Small dog found in trash bag euthanized

Police want to know how a small Chihuahua-Pomeranian-mix ended up in a trash bag on the side of a road.

The animal was found on Friday by someone who called 911. The animal was taken to a shelter where it was later euthanize.

Here’s more in a police report:

On April 22 at 12:10PM, Animal Control responded to the area of Fleetwood Dr near the Fauquier County line in Nokesville (20181) to investigate an animal cruelty complaint. The caller reported to police that they were in the above area when an animal in distress was heard. Upon checking the area, the caller located a small dog in a black trash bag along the side of the road. The dog was found to be in extremely poor condition. The caller attempted to provide the dog water but do to its state, was unable to drink.

Animal Control Officers immediately transported the dog to the Prince William County Animal Shelter to be evaluated by the shelter’s veterinarian. Based on the evaluation and due to the dog’s deteriorating condition, the determination was made to humanly euthanize the animal. The dog was transported to a state lab for a necropsy and further examination. The dog is believed to be a Chihuahua/Pomeranian-mix, tan in color, and approximately 10 years old. The dog weighed about 3lbs and had no identifying marks or collar.
