Manassas Battlefield to offer guided Spring Hikes in April

Manassas National Battlefield Park will offer special guided hikes in April.

The Spring Hikes, an annual feature of the park’s schedule of programs, will provide the public with an opportunity to experience some of the less-visited areas of the battlefield with a park historian.

On Saturday, April 2, visitors are invited to join park historian Bryant Kincaid for a guided hike focusing on the events of the First Battle of Manassas (Bull Run). This hike will cover nearly five-and-one-half miles of walking and last roughly four hours. The hike will visit many of the landmarks connected to the battle, including the Stone Bridge, Matthews Hill, the Stone House, and Henry Hill.

On Saturday, April 16, park historian Gregory Wolf will conduct a 6-mile hike focusing on the significant events of the Second Battle of Manassas. This hike will last approximately four hours and include such battlefield sites as Stonewall Jackson’s line along the Unfinished Railroad and Chinn Ridge, where Gen. James Longstreet’s Confederate forces counterattacked.

Participants are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen, and insect repellant. Both guided hikes will be held rain or shine, and the historian will meet participants at 1 p.m. at the Visitor Center at 6511 Sudley Road.

There is no fee for these programs. For additional information, contact the Visitor Center at 703-361-1339.
