Body discovered in pond behind Aviation Institute near Manassas

From police: 

Death Investigation – On March 29 at 4:02PM, officers responded to investigate what appeared to be human remains located in a retention pond in the 7300 Williamson Blvd in Manassas (20109). Officers with the Dive Team are currently working to recover the remains which will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further analysis and identification. The identity of the deceased will be released once confirmed and next of kin notified. More information will be released when available. The investigation continues.

Police discovered a body in a pond off Williamson Boulevard near Manassas about 3:30 p.m.

Police were called to the area shortly after that were establishing a crime scene behind the Aviation Institute of Maintenance near Manassas. Officers focused their efforts on along a shoreline along the pond.

A 911 caller told an operator an object that looked like a body appeared to be floating on its stomach, according to initial reports. Fire and rescue boats were called to rescue whomever may have been in the water, but were called off when police determined the floating object to be a body, according to initial reports.
