Police said 25-year-old Gary Mason Lee, 25, of Hampton, was killed while he was working as a flagger on a construction project on Davis Ford Road on Thursday.

Fatal Crash Investigation – On March 24 at 12:19PM, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the 6600 block of Davis Ford Rd in Manassas (20111) to investigate a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2013 Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on Davis Ford Rd approaching a mobile work zone in the above area. As the driver neared the work zone, he failed to stop for the flagger and subsequently struck him.The force of the collision pushed the flagger into the northbound lane where he was inadvertently struck by the driver of a 2014 Mercedes C250. The flagger was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers of the striking vehicles were not injured and remained at the scene of the crash. The flagger was dressed in a florescent green vest and pants holding a stop sign mounted on a metal pole. Speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in this crash. Charges are pending for the driver of the Ford Fusion. A member of a road crew was killed this afternoon on Davis Ford Road.
The unidentified victim was working to insert new reflective markers in the 6600 block of Davis Ford Road, according to two witnesses who stopped traffic on the two-lane road to aid the victim.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 12:20 p.m. A portion of Davis Ford Road was shut down at Crooked Creek Road for a police investigation.
Witnesses told Potomac Local crews had been in the area laying new water pipes. The victim was working with a construction crew in the area when he was hit, according to witnesses.
Two men saw the victim immediately after he was struck, and then stopped traffic on both lanes of Davis Ford Road.
“The last thing I would want to do is go and tell that man’s family that he his not coming home tonight,” one witness told Potomac Local.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway. The pedestrian involved, identified as an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. The driver of the striking vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene of the crash. Further information on the crash will be released when available. The identity of the deceased pedestrian will also be released once a next of kin is notified. Davis Ford Rd is expected to reopen as soon as the roadway is cleared. The investigation continues.
The victim is a subcontractor for Arthur Construction, the firm that had recently added new water sewer lines along Davis Ford Road as part of a project for the Prince William Service Authority.
“The project is coming to a close,” said spokesman Keenan Howel.
