The City of Manassas launched a new mobile-friendly website today.
The site is responsive, meaning it shrinks down when viewed on a cell phone, and it imitates an app, so users don’t have to download any new updates to use the new site.
More in a press release:
The City of Manassas has updated and upgraded their website. As more and more people trade in their desktop computers for tablets and smart phones, websites need to change with the times.
According to a study by comscore.com, while desktop computers are still relevant, mobile device usage has skyrocketed in the last four years. Out of time spent on digital media (meaning all devices), 60 percent is spent on mobile platforms, i.e., tablets and smart phones.Â
With this being the trend for information sharing, city staff felt it was time to upgrade the website to a more mobile friendly platform. By using CivicPlus, already the website contractor for the City of Manassas, staff were able to save a great deal of time and money to accomplish this goal.
The new site, www.manassascity.org, features one click shortcut buttons to most frequently requested information, a news sharing spotlight feature, and access to the City’s social media. The site is more mobile friendly with a responsive design. As the site shrinks to fit a cellphone, it imitates a mobile app, but the user does not have to download additional software. For those who are not on social media, there is a social corner so that anyone can see what the City posts. Google Translate is also a feature on every page, offering more than 40 languages at the click of a button.
This streamlined new look and feel still has mega menu navigation so that those who are used to accessing pages through these menus will still be able to do so. The new site also features “Art in the City,” new web pages about the City’s arts initiative. Buttons on every page of the website lead residents to easily access the online bill pay portal and, a very popular feature, Report a Concern, where residents let the City know about potholes, lights not in service and other city concerns.
The City of Manassas invites the public to explore, enjoy, and experience the City of Manassas … online!
