Two men went to hospitals after a head-on collision in Woodbridge.

The drivers of a tan Infinity QX4 and Saturn Vue, both SUVs, collided in the 2900 block of West Longview Drive about 4:30 p.m. Rescue crews extracted, at least, one man from his SUV.

EMTs worked feverishly to perform CPR on one of the victims. After at least 30 minutes, the crash victim was placed in an ambulance and flown to a local hospital.

Rescue crews strapped the second crash to a bed and drove him to a local hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The identities of the victims were not released.

Once fire and rescue crews cleared the scene, a police crash investigation team began examining and photographing the wreckage. Both SUV sustained heavy front-end damage, had their front side doors removed, and tires had blown out.

Police closed a portion of West Longview Drive at Franklin Street. Only those who lived in homes beyond the orange cones were allowed to pass.

The crash happened about 50 yards from a crosswalk used by students at Marumsco Hills Elementary School. Neighbors told Potomac Local speeding is an issue on the street weekdays between 6 and 8 a.m. and 4 and 6 p.m.

“We’ve been trying for years to get a speed hump or an increased fine for speeding along this road,” said Timothy Carter, whose lived Marumsco Hills on West Longview for 40 years. “The police are out here doing what they can [to stop speeders].

Police said the affected portion of West Longview would be closed for the crash investigation until at least 7 p.m. Tuesday.
