Volunteers will prime wall for Occoquan public art project

Volunteers next month will descend upon Occoquan to work on several beautification projects, to include laying the groundwork for a public art project that will be seen by thousands of daily commuters.

In partnership with Comcast and Leadership Prince William, the Town of Occoquan is proud to announce that it has been selected as one of the project sites for Comcast Cares Day, the largest day of volunteerism by a corporation in the US.  On Saturday, April 30, 2016, Occoquan will welcome more than 200 volunteers to the community to help complete a number of maintenance and beautification projects that will benefit the residents, businesses, and visitors to the Town, as well as the entire Prince William County.

Volunteers, including Comcast employees, Leadership Prince William alum, residents, businesses, and non-profit, civic and service organizations, will help complete a list of projects in Occoquan including rehabilitation of the Town public dock and boardwalk, upgrades and maintenance to Mamie Davis Park, the establishment of a community garden, improvements to the entrance to the Town and County on Route 123, creation of a backdrop for a public art project on the corner of Route 123 and Commerce Street, as well as landscaping, painting, and other maintenance projects throughout the town. 

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, in the historic Town of Occoquan and is hosted by the Leadership Prince William Class of 2016.  Volunteers and monetary and/or material donations are needed in support of this event.  For more information or to volunteer for the event, visit https://leadershipprincewilliam.org/comcast-cares-day.
