The Boy Scouts had another successful year of Scouting for Food, their annual food drive in Prince William.
Scouts from ages 6 to 18 participated, dropping off bags for residents to fill with donated food, and knocked on doors in the community to help collect the food for people in need.
“Some units knocked on doors to remind people of the collection and received 3 times the amount of donations. I am thankful for the overwhelming response of residents that gave to this effort,” said Scouting for Food Coordinator Marla Deem.
The 70 Boy Scout units were able to collect 35,000 pounds of food this year that went to the ACTS food pantry, and other local food banks. Several area businesses helped to collect and transport the food, according to Deem.
The Tackett’s Mill and Cheshire Station shopping centers were receiving locations for many food items, and Appliance Connection provided large commercial trucks to help transport the food to area food banks.
“This was a great community effort, and we’re excited to continue our service through Scouting for Food next year,” said Deem.
