Prince William Republican Women’s Club to host annual Veterans Day Eve Dinner

To celebrate Veterans Day, Prince William Republicans will show their appreciation for veterans, active duty military, and their families by hosting a free dinner. The Prince William Republican Women’s Club will host its 3rd Annual Veterans Day Eve Dinner on Tuesday, November 10 at 7pm in Manassas. The event is open and free to any veteran, military member and their families, regardless of political affiliation.

The dinner will include Italian food, and will take place at the Regency Apartments Community Room, which is located at 11201 Partnership Lane, Manassas, VA 20109. Anyone wanting to attend should RSVP on or before Sunday, November 8 by contacting Prince William Republican Women’s Club President Robyn Williams at [email protected] or 571-243-3867.

In addition to the free dinner, the Club will collect donations for Homes for Our Troops (HFOT), a national 501 (c)(3) charitable organization which is currently building a home in Nokesville for disabled Retired Army Sargent Steven Curry. Donations are not required for veteran and military attendees.

“Our veterans are heroes because they have devoted their life to something greater than themselves – our freedoms,” said Robyn Williams. “This dinner is only a very small token of our appreciation for the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform and their families have made for us.”

“Our Committee exists to win elections, but we are also committed to serving the community,” said GOP Chairman Bill Card. “This dinner is important for us in our goal to serve this community, which has a large amount of active duty military and veterans. I applaud our Women’s Clubs because they have been leading the way in serving the community for years with various events like this.”

Throughout the year, Prince William Republicans have had various events as part of a Community Service Initiative. The Bull Run Republican Women’s Club kicked off this year’s Initiative in March with a fashion show and luncheon that benefited the B.A.R.N Transitional Housing charity in Bristow. Republicans have also conducted a school supply drive, food bank drives and clean-up projects across the County this year. In June, Supervisor Pete Candland, Occoquan Supervisor Mike May, and Brentsville Supervisor Jeanine Lawson led a 13-hour 36.5 mile “Walk For Prince William” across the County that raised 20,000 pounds of food and supply donations for County charities. In 2014, the Committee Initiative included ten service projects, including food bank collections, and an August school supply drive, among many others.

Should Virginia ditch the longstanding practice of electing the General Assembly and the governor in odd year elections?

The first odd year election in Virginia was in 1851, after a new state Constitution was approved and members of the House were elected to a two-year term. Before that, members of the House had one-year terms, and voters selected members every single year.

Now, Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell says modern day voters are sick and tired of voting every year.

A Manassas man was sentenced today to 18 years in prison for providing drugs and alcohol to a child in exchange for sex acts and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) depicting the same victim as well as other children.
