Helen Chakurda, formerly Mehalko, of Stafford, VA, died on October 23, 2015, at Stafford Hospital.
Helen was born on March 10, 1925, in Tresckow, PA. She married George Chakurda in 1956, and was a devoted wife and mother. Her loving husband, George, passed away in 2007, and she is survived by her 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was a loving mother to Mary and her husband Kirk Daubenspeck; George Jr. and his wife Karon Chakurda; James and his wife Carol Chakurda; and Joseph and his wife Joy Chakurda. She was a loving grandmother to Britnea and Chris St. John; Tabitha and Kenny Urf; Kirstin and Mitch Nason; Aaron and Amanda Horney; Donelle and Stephen Krull; and Gary and Lea Cooper.
She is also survived by her beautiful great-grandchildren Kyleigh St. John; Brantley and Finnley Urf; Loreli, Lane and Laskin Nason; Preston Heflin; and Desirae and Gabriel Krull. Helen and George lived in Woodbridge, VA, for over 50 years. They were active members and loyal supporters of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, American Legion Post 364, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Helen moved to her son James’ home in Stafford in 2011, where she continued to enjoy many happy times with her family and friends. Friends are invited to celebrate and honor Helen’s life from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, at Covenant Funeral Service, 1310 Courthouse Rd., Stafford, VA 22554.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 30, at St. William of York Catholic Church with interment to follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
